following on from my thread about interesting sandwich fillings, I decided to try & perk up my lunch box by making the bread more tasty. As I bake my own it's easy to do. I've been adding sun dried tomatoes for instance, herbs, garlic, seeds & nuts, mustard. I've even discovered that you can add a bit of flavour by swilling out empty tins of their sauce remenants and using it in place of liquid in the dough! That's a cheap addition of flavour too!
Any more ideas?

Those are some great ideas to add to bread. I haven't made bread in awhile. One I do like to do is to add some cinnamon and raisins and make like a raisin bread.

Thanks for the suggestions green-moo. I bake all our bread. My son's favorite is my banana bread.

Parmesan cheese would probably be very nice with sun dried tomato actually :)
When I make bread with sun dried tomato I put a dollop of passata into the dough, but I don't mix it through properly. That way you end up with a sort of stripe in the bread which looks good as well as tastes it.

I've been looking around for different bread bakers and want to buy one pretty soon because fresh-baked bread is fantastic. Thanks for some of the ideas. I'd like to try making one with roasted red peppers and parmasean.

RFL, I've had several different bread machines. I didn't like any of them. I've found you get a much better product just doing it the old-fashioned way. I'm sure others will disagree though.

When I make cornbread I always like to spike it with some dried dill. It wakes up the flavour of the bread and whatever you're eating with it. A handful of caraway seeds in rye and dark brown bread is also nice.
I've never tried dill in cornbread. I'll do that next time. I usually just add some sweet peppers, unless I'm going for plain. I also like to make it with yogurt instead of buttermilk.

I add all sorts of liquids rather than the milk that my plain recipe suggests. I often rinse out jars and use that liquid, particularly sauces.

The bakery here makes a sourdough with sprouted seeds - it is really, really good:)

My fav cheese bread has always been asiago, so I'd recommend that. Very good toasted for sandwiches. Bravo to you, by the way, for making your own bread. Every time I try something like that I'm defeated instantly!
I wonder how a five cheese bread would taste? Maybe an Italian influenced bread or a French styled bread would be delicious? You could take a bread like a baguette with your own twist added to it. Sorry, that's just a thought. I'm not much of a cook myself.
