Most people associate vegetarians and vegans with dietary concerns, but I also choose my skin care products based on the same principles, where possible.

Do you read labels on your skin care products in an effort to avoid those containing ingredients from animal sources?

Do you make your own skin care items with the same standards in mind?

Sage Mother is right; no one should put any cosmetic on their body without reading the label. For example, carmine. Did you know that carmine is a ground up species of beetle? I had some lipstick and I shudder to think about rubbing it into my lips! Live and learn....

LOL. This would be a good sales point for mineral make up! No ground up insects going on your lips!

I think the best make-up is mineral make-up anyway. But I never thought to read the labels on it before.

I love mineral makeup. My problem with the labels though is I don't know what half the ingredients are. I believe it was here that someone posted a great list of some of the names though.

The easiest way of avoiding using products that you are unhappy about is to find a supplier who does not use animal products of by products and stick tot heir products.

I don't usually use skin care products even if it contain no ingredient from animal sources LOL.
But you are right that not only what we eat we should be careful of, but also what we wear. Do you use leather shoes? Do you wear a leather belt? But I think that's the next step of being vegetarian.

This is tough. I use Estee Lauder lipsticks. I just read that it could be cancerous. So, what other products are? What are their names?
