I was moved by this recent news story. Hopefully many people will tune into this widely available show and be inspired to take responsible action.

An undercover animal rights advocate infiltrates a commercial hog farm in Ohio. The new Death on a Factory Farm do***entary, airing one week from tonight on HBO (March 18, 2009), will hopefully affect dietary choices. The intent is to expose the legal loopholes that often doom animals in institutionalized production to abuse and cruelty, but it should have other positive effects as well.

To get someone to stop eating meat all you have to do is take them through a slaughter house. It worked for me. Really, who takes an eight-year-old to a slaughter house?

That's part of the reason I left the south. The conditions there for animals are just awful.

You are so very right! One trip to a slaughter house is all it takes for people to revise their diet!:D

Wow, I have heard about slaughterhouses but I have never seen one (and don't intend to now, it would give me nightmares.) I cannot bear the thought of animal abuse

For those who have never been through a slaughterhouse, or don't ever want to, there is a book that will give you, even though it was written in 1906, a pretty good view of slaughterhouses. "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair will make you never want to eat meat again, I promise you.

Are you saying that someone took you to the slaughter house when you were only 8, that is such a cruel thing to do.

I wouldn't want to go to a slaughter house, and if I went, I'd probably lose my appetite...for a few days. If you're hungry for something, you're hungry for it. There's not much you can do about it. Now that I think about it, what exactly is a humane way to kill an animal?
