I have some great shell shaped plates and a huge crystal salad bowl. I like to layer the following:
Shredded iceberg lettuce
Thinly sliced and diced cu***bers
finely chopped red cabbage with equal parts sweet onion
chopped tomato
finely chopped broccoli heads
chopped bell pepper (I like to mix green, yellow and red)
chopped egg
chopped imitation crab
It looks beautiful on the table and then everyone can dress it as they please. I serve this a lot in summer with homemade bread.
Of course if you don't eat eggs or fish just omit those layers.

that is a fantastic salad accer...I suppose you could do this with fruits too....layers of different colored fruits will look really cool and tempting...

I like to layer fruits and nuts, like a parfait without the ice cream (I'm lactose-intolerant anyway). The protein in the nuts helps me feel full.

Atula, we eat that A LOT in the summer, the veggies differ sometimes but that's the essential plan. I also make fresh bread to go with it.....it's great on a hot day.

I've done it with fruits as well....one layer after the other. I also make a mean Waldorf salad.....I'm a big salad person in the Summer. It's pretty much all I eat until the heat passes.
(Shut up Frankie!)
So are you going to post the Waldorf salad recipe or did you post that just to tease me?
That salad sounds great. I make a variation of that but never thought to just make layers. Sounds pretty.

This sounds wonderful! I have a bowl like that, too... and I know that layered salad looks great in it. The recipe I have calls for one of the layers to be mayo or salad dressing but I think it's much healthier just putting bottles on the table with dressing (or sprays) instead of dumping a cup of Hellmans on as one of the layers.

I agree - That does sound very appetizing. By the way, imitation crab is some kind of fish isn't it?
I'd just like to be clear on exactly what I was eating when I've had it in the past.

If this imitation crab is made of soy and/or other vegetable ingredients, I'd love to know where it can be bought.
There is an artificial shrimp that is so close to shrimp itself that it's almost alarming. If anyone knows where this can be obtained I'd be eternally grateful. There is a vegetarian Chinese restaurant we frequent that does the "shrimp"; also a "beef" that is terriffic. They're not very forthcoming on where they get these delectable treats.

Sounds good, I like eggs in salads, but always forget to put them in. I assume you're using a hard boiled egg?
